Red Sox and Yankees Renew Rivalry

The Red Sox and Yankees renew their rivalry on Tuesday as the Yankees hit Boston’s Fenway park for a mid-week three game series in what could have tremendous impact on the AL East division race.  The Yankees currently hold a one game lead and are in first place over the Red Sox in second place in the AL East.   The Red Sox have won 5 consecutive games over the Yankees in 2009.  Josh Beckett is set to face AJ Burnett in game one.  After the Red Sox meet the Yankees, they head to Citizen’s Pack Park to take on the Philadelphia Phillies in intraleague play.

RED SOX BEAT RAYS 8-7 IN HISTORIC PLAYOFF COMEBACK

The Boston Red Sox pulled off another miracle beating the Tampa Bay Rays 8-7 in a late-night comeback to end all comebacks. With a mere seven outs left in the Red Sox season and some of the faithful beginning to exit Fenway Park, the Red Sox made an historic playoff comeback, coming from behind 7-0 to extend their season. The Rays still lead the Red Sox in the ALCS 3 games to 2 as the series now, unexpectedly moves back to St. Pete for Game 6 Saturday night.

Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched six stellar no-hit innings versus the Tampa Bay Rays to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 2-0 victory over the AL East Champs.  The Red Sox took a 1-0 advantage in the ALCS and now have the home field advantage.  The single win equaled the total number of wins the Red Sox had the entire 2008 season at Tropicana Field.  Josh Beckett pitched this evening for the Red Sox in Game 2 of the ALCS.  The Red Sox will host the Rays for game 3 at Fenway Park Monday afternoon.

Red Sox Look To Sweep Anaheim Angels in ALDS

Josh Beckett will pitch Game 3 of the American League Division Series in Fenway Park versus the Angels tonight in Boston.   Beckett has not pitched in thirteen days due to an oblique injury.  Beckett is 5-5 with a 6+ ERA at Fenway this season.  Two of Beckett’s losses this season came at the hands of the Angels.   Josh pitched a four-hit shutout gem versus the Angels in Game 1 of the 2007 ALDS.  The Boston Red Sox look to sweep the Angels of Anaheim and move on to the American League Championship Series versus either the Tampa Rays or Chicago White Sox.  Defying many expectations, the Red Sox were able to pull out two dramatic victories over the Angels in Anaheim with clutch pitching, hitting and fielding.

Jason Bay: Latest Red Sox Hero

Jason Bay, traded for Manny Ramirez and appearing in his first game as a Red Sox, was instrumental to the Red Sox’s 2-1 victory over the Oakland A’s on Friday night.   Jason hit a two-out triple in the bottom of the 13th inning and was driven home as the winning run. 

Manny hit into a double play in the ninth inning of his first game with the Dodgers as the Dodgers lost to the Diamondbacks.

John Lackey No-Hits the Red Sox Thru 8 Innings

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim certainly have the Red Sox’s number this year.  To make matters worse, Angels pitcher has a no-hitter going on the Red Sox through 8 innings.  Lackey has walked one Red Sox.  Angels lead 6-0.

Update: Dustin Pedroia broke up the no-no with a single to left, then Kevin Youkilis broke up the shut out with a two run home run.  Still, the Angels are looking to make it seven straight victories over the Sox.

Seven Red Sox All-Stars in 2008: Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz were selected as starters although Ortiz cannot play due to injury.  

Jonathan Papelbon, Jason Varitek and J.D. Drew were all honored with selections as back-ups.
